My neighbor for Ruth
Like a friend, like a mother, like a sister,
I go out walking—will you join me?
We always think of each other,
Our steps in rhythm, our hearts at ease.

We walk and talk of family matters,
But mostly, it’s you who listens.
You don’t offer advice or sermons—
Only prayers, sincere and quiet,
Whispered gently to the skies,
Asking God to lift me, guide me,
Help me rise.

Your love wraps around me,
Soft and warm,
A shelter,
A balm.

Before every long journey,
I walk with you,
Sharing my plans,
My hopes,
My nerves.

And when I return,
You’re there—
To hear the stories,
To admire the flowers,
To chat about the grass beneath our feet.
You never ask for anything.
You simply love.
You simply pray.
Ruth—
Thank you
For being part of my life
